In this Lesson we will once again BreakDown several Licks and Concepts based on the always impressive Josh Smith. Check out our other Lessons on Josh to learn more about this great Guitarist. Josh truly is one of those rare players that has it all … great Tone, amazing Phrasing, and incredible Touch and Technique.
This Free Guitar Lesson Series will focus on the Licks and Ideas Josh played in a few measures of a Blues Progression. It all starts with some tasty Phrasing and use of dynamics. Then quickly goes into a fast Pentatonic Run that has your ears twisting a bit … but in a good way. This is a pretty standard Pentatonic Lick but it has a cool turnaround and is played with such great Technique. All of which we will breakDown for you … both the technique being used and all the notes being played.
After that we breakDown a really cool Diminished Lick … although the way Josh incorporates this … it doesn’t stand out as a Diminished Lick … it simply turns your head as if to say … “what the heck was that”.
Then we examine his cool use of 3rds … a simple yet very effective Technique that is often overlooked by students of Guitar. Then we end by looking at another really nice set of Phrases that Josh so eloquently plays.
And as always we wrap up this Lesson (in part 3 of this Series of Lessons) by talking a bit about the Concepts being used and some things you can take out of this Lesson and begin to explore on your own.
We hope you get a lot out of this Free Guitar Lesson And stick around, we will continue to bring you more Guitar Lessons based on Josh Smith and his inspiring and soulful playing. As always feel free to send us your requests.
